The University of Wisconsin–Madison Departments of Chemistry and Chemical and Biological Engineering host an annual summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Selected participants spend 10 weeks conducting research in one of three areas: chemistry, chemical engineering, or biological engineering.

Research opportunities in the Department of Chemistry are offered in the following areas:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Chemical Biology
  • Chemical Education
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Materials Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Synthetic Organic Chemistry
  • Theoretical Chemistry

Research opportunities in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering are offered in the following areas:

  • Applied Mathematics
  • Bioscience and Engineering
  • Colloids/Particle Technology
  • Kinetics and Catalysis
  • Materials
  • Nanoscale Science and Engineering
  • Polymers and Rheology
  • Reactor Modeling and Reaction Engineering
  • Systems, Modeling, and Control
